Swainson's Hawk

Mid-day a hawk flight began that included 100+ immature Red-tails. Ken Brock was first to notice the young Swainson's Hawk mixed in. This immature buteo was similar in size to the Red-tails, but had longer/thinner more pointed wings, a narrower tail, and soared with more dihedral (approaching that of a Turkey Vulture). The underwing coverts were whitish, while the flight feathers were charcoal gray. The breast was whitish and the under side of the tail was grayish.
