American Avocet

All white head, neck, underside and stripe on black wings. Bird viewed on sandy point with many gulls. Clear close looks with spotting scope, large, thin and black upturned bill noticed immediately. Unfortunately no photo as the bird was spooked by some incoming gulls, took flight and flew off before I could see where it had flown. Avocet was looked for by Eric Ripma and Chris Neri with no luck. Very big surprise to see this bird at this time!
