Only seen in silhouette. Other birders saw them earlier and used their Sibleys to ID them as black crowned night herons. When I saw them, they flew over with neck scrunched and legs extended. Small heron by shape and silhouette. They landed in a tree and perched where we could again see their silhouette - small heron shape with long legs. (Long compared to hawks or other birds of that size.)
