Pair...just East of Nature Trail just beyond Visitor's Center. Slightly larger than Ash-throated Flycatcher, with bushier crest, longer beak, and, most importantly, different vocalizations.

Adult female calling from low dense vegetation East of the dry Kern River bed, where it runs East of the Nature Trail, not far from the Visitor's Center. Please note that visitors to the Audubon Kern River Preserve are asked by the manager to not stray off trail or use playbacks to chase down birds. This bird has been heard singing regularly (yet inconsistently) from the Visitor's Center & Nature Trail, and visitors can hear it from there if it's singing. Also, a Yellow-breasted Chat was observed foraging in the area behind the benches next to the hummingbird feeders in front of the Visitor's Center last week. Today's sighting occurred during bird surveys of the area by a researcher with permission to conduct research off trail.
