Heard only on waterbird count. A whistled "tu" note. Single notes heard a couple times. Not as strident as GRYE. Unmistakable.

Empidonax sp.
1

Seen twice on waterbird count. First time flew in off lake, across beach before lost in jack pines, second time flew into close pines and perched before disappearing again.
Bird had a stout flattened bill, pale gray head, slight darker eye mask, brownish back, gray upper chest, bright yellow belly, black tail with bold white outer tail feathers. Observed through binoculars both times.

An amazing influx of this species. One was continuing bird at feeders, 2 additional birds seen at feeders (photos to come). All 3 birds were being observed at feeders by Louie Dombroski as I saw 2 in flight over waterbird count at exact same time. This was communicated via 2-way radios. Pair of weaver finches seen in flight, chirup-chirup flight calls heard and recognized. Birds in flight were ID'd by combination of stocky bodies, brown caps, white auriculars with black center spot, & white collars. Full report and photographs to MBRC.
