With Dan Weber. We parked at end of paved road, birded there briefly, then walked about 0.5 miles on the coral trail through mangroves, part of Key Deer Refuge, stopping soon after the trail emerged into a relatively open area where open water patches could be observed.

One heard calling at parking area. A pair heard and seen one-half mile away by trail. Bird came in low and perched close by, calling several times. Mate was nearby, hidden, giving shorter calls. Observed for 5 minutes.
