Great, fairly lengthy view as circled overhead (low at first, slowly gaining altitude). Small buteo with dark tail with one prominent white band. Pale band at tip also noticeable when it banked just right. Pale wings with distinct dark border all along trailing edge. Wing noticeably broad, with slight outward curvature along trailing edge. Wing shape and tail markings quite different than Swainsons soaring nearby, plus dark on trailing edge of wing limited to border instead of larger dark area on trailing edge of SWHA. Eliminated Gray Hawk based on fewer white stripes on tail, dark border around wing and contrast between pale belly and wings vs slightly darker chest and head (GRHA would have been more uniformly colored underneath).
