Seen to the right of the trail as one walks from the parking lot to the Sandpiper Trail before the boardwalk begins. At the edge of the water. Stayed for at least 3 days. Steve Mlodinow and Dave Irons noted it on P. 484 of the season's (Spring 2005) wrap-up of North American Birds: https://sora.unm.edu/sites/default/files/journals/nab/v059n03/p00484-p00488.pdf "The sole west side American Avocet graced Hoquiam,Grays Harbor 23-24 Apr (T.Schooley)" It was also posted on Tweeters from Burt Guttman from April 2005 stating that Tom Schooley had originally spotted it while the two of them were leading a bird walk for a Birding 101 class: http://mailman1.u.washington.edu/pipermail/tweeters/2005-April/040902.html
