it flied suddenly from the reeds, small in size with dark brown body and 2-3 long vertical rufous bars on its mantle. it flied just above the water level for a short distance and landed in reeds. faster wing beats and more stretched wings helps to separate it from similar colored Baillon's crake, which was familiar to one of us (AC). No other birds to be confused with this and earlier reports of Jack snipes from same area. We searched the entire area again but no luck with us. No photographs
