John Watts spotted the bird at 3:40 p.m. after a long all-day wait. It was swimming amongst the vegetation and would come in and out of view repeatedly. Many people had already left, but a few that came a little later did get to see it. It was a striking male with the gray flanks, slightly darker back, chestnut-brown head, and large white head markings. We watched it on and off until we left at 5:00 p.m. I was able to digiscope this bird for the record. It never came fully out from behind the vegetation.
