    Comments: Male and female together. Distinctive neat crest and thin bill. Male brightly colored; black head with large white area on crest behind eye, rufous sides.

    Comments: Female type. Like Townsend's but weaker face pattern, no yellow on throat or breast (except a very faint wash on breast visible only on photos). Green back. Throat mostly white with a few black flecks. Yellow around vent and legs. Black on sides of breast, with a few black feathers across center of breast, with black extending as streaks down flanks. Two white wing bars. Photos.
