Comments: Lifer after 4 missed tries for this species throughout MI in about the last year. Previously confirmed bird (I agree that it lacks any features suggesting recent hybrid ancestry), found and photographed on 6/3 and this morning, 6/6, by Michael Boston, on the east shore of the east lagoon in the morning hours. Tonight it was relocated in a last-ditch effort at 9:00pm as the sun was lowering, scoping the west bank of the (closed) center dike. I was scoping from the northeast corner of the west lagoon, scanning down the center dike and found this bird with a group of CANGs, MALLs, NSHOs, and a NOPI. Probably nearly halfway down the dike (hard to estimate though), potentially putting this bird at over 0.6 miles away (1000 yards) if viewed from either end of the 1.33-mile long center dike. Heat shimmer may have prevented previous success finding this bird at this location. Smaller size than MALLs, bright rufous head, creamy front, grayish back and flanks, white wing patch, and black vent bordered by white on the lower belly were all evident in the 30x scope and even in the distant photos (will get around to those soon).
