Comments:
Fulvous Whistling Duck - we were called while beginning to explore another canyon near Raton, so instead traveled the five hours down to Bosque to see these birds. OVerall tawny or dark buff with dark central crown and line continuing back down the center of the nape. Dark back with broad tawny edges to feathers. Broad white lines or streaks on flanks and bright white vent and undertail coverts. Head somewhat squared off at rear crown but overall shape not too different than closeby Mallards, including size.
