Santa Barbara CBC birding with Jon Dunn. We walked Stearns Wharf to check for two Black Scoters that had been reported in the harbor. We scoped the birds in the harbor mainly looking west and on the beach west of the wharf. Weather clear and cool with no wind.

Easily found in the scoter flock looking west from Stearns Wharf. Appeared to be one female and one imm male. The male showed some developing color on the bill which Jon Dunn was able to capture in digiscoped photos. My photos are more distant:

Scoped out on the ocean. Jon quickly picked this bird out while we were looking at a flying alcid. Noted the long, pointed wings, thin body mass compared to Pomarine Jaeger. It was quite a ways out and stayed low over the water heading west

One longish flying alcid heading west with a large head. Scoped from the wharf. Too large in size to be a Cassin's Auklet. Seen poorly but structure fits Rhino Auklet.
