Came to pishing and whistled Screech Owl. Perched in top of small mesquite for 15-20 sec. Viewed with 8x binocs at range of 20 yds. Really surprised to see a single bird since Cedar Waxwings are normally in flocks. Warm brown plumage with crest, black face and yellow tipped tail. This bird was first year or adult, not immature.

At the end of road/trail north of Bobcat Rd. In light brown waist high grass. Sat in small mesquite when flushed. Buffy breast. Light striping on flanks and breast band. White crown stripe. Scaly back. Bluish gray patch near eye.
