Very small loon, slightly smaller or about the same size as WEGR with which was close by. Small grayish head, lighter throat with white in face, no chin strap. Immature. Small amount of white at flank just above water line. Scaps with speckling and paler than PALO. Bill and head held tilted up most of the time. A couple of times when the bird stretched and flapped, I noted some faint reddish markings in throat which would appear to be a trait shared by at least some immature RTLO's according to a couple of my field guides. Seen from the south shore and quickly then swimming further away. Breezy and frigid cold conditions mixed with heat distortion coming off of water led to poor scope viewing conditions. However, I did manage a couple of poor digiscoped photos. Barely diagnostic my photos are so poor, however you can see the white in flank just above waterline, small round head with the eye evident within the white on the face, small short pale bill, held slightly above horizontal.
