Apparently scarce in this region. It is not mentioned in Quay's "The Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, and Amphibians of Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area" (1959) and was only seen three times by Sykes during his intensive survey of the area in 1965. The above individual was seen in the pine woods behind (west of) the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
