Comments:
Chris Dunford and Sami LaRocca led a Yolo Audubon trip to Bodega Bay. Participants included Joe Clemens, John Hansen, Marsha Hand, Ken Ealy, Ann Ruffer, Stan Hunter, Racine Barton, Kirk Ehmsen and Claire. Low clouds in the morning and mid-afternoon (we finished around 3:30 pm), partly cloudy for about two hours in between, light to fresh wind, temp 55-65 F. Very high low tide at 8:42 am and very high high tide at 2:45 pm - very little mudflat exposure the whole day. We spent considerable time in Owl Canyon, both morning and afternoon, Campbell Cove and Hole in the Head in the late morning, Doran Beach mid-day, and the rail ponds in early afternoon. In Owl Canyon, we discovered a Bobcat lying on a tree limb just above and to the south of the path up into the canyon. It watched us at close range (30 ft at most) the whole time we were in the canyon in the morning (it was gone when we returned in the afternoon) - seeming only a little uncomfortable with our close presence as we took photos from many angles. Beautiful cat in good condition.
