Comments:
Heat stressed birds (especially White-plumed & New Holland Honeyeaters, Red Wattlebirds & Rainbow Lorikeets) have been seen sitting in pets’ drinking bowls & hanging water bowls seeking both water & relief from the heat, during the heat wave. The Rainbow Lorikeets were unwilling to leave the hanging bowls, sometimes remaining by these all afternoon, not even leaving to feed. One Rainbow Lorikeet laid on its side in a hanging bowl. It looked dead until approached, whereupon it leapt out of the bowl & screeched long & loudly. Willy Wagtails also were attracted to water bowls over the heat wave period. Reported by Daryl Akers. Sighting 8028, Melton South.
