Stopped to just listen if there was much around and was floored to see a strange warbler. Got out and walked around a bit along the road.

  22. Magnolia x Yellow-rumped Warbler (hybrid)

Comments: I got out of the car and took a few steps and saw a warbler about ten feet up in a sapling. With my bare eyes I could see that it had yellow underparts with a black necklace - I put my binoculars on it expecting to see a Magnolia Warbler and was instantly confused about what I was looking at. This bird did indeed have bright yellow underparts and a Magnolia Warbler-like necklace but the throat was white and the face pattern and grey-brown streaked back more closely resembled a Myrtle Warbler. The tail pattern was also intermediate between Myrtle and Magnolia Warbler with a white band of tail spots about half the size of a typical male Magnolia Warbler. I watched it for about 30 seconds before running to the car to grab my camera. However, when I returned I could not find the bird and after searching for thirty more minutes unsuccessfully I had to leave without any photos. However, based on the intermediate characteristics between Myrtle and Magnolia Warblers I have to assume this was a Magnolia x Myrtle Warbler hybrid!!
