First identified as a second Laysan by passenger. I took a look and saw the mantle was too light, with white on head and rump blending into the mantle, as opposed to the clear delineation of this pattern on a Laysan. Larger size and broader wings. Then it banked and I saw the white underwings and the distinctive "thumb mark" at the leading edge of base of wing, noted the larger body and huge bill. Poor slides taken by me, good photos taken by others. This is likely the same bird we had on 6 October 1996. Reported submitted to OBRC and accepted.
