Group seen well at close range in air, circling over pond.

Watched through scope at 50 yards. Clearly a phoebe, perched alertly on vertical stick in pond and dipping tail persistently; dull dark grayish back & wings with two slight, low-contrast wingbars; dark head with no eyering, all-dark bill; in side view, underparts seen to be entirely whitish, contrasting with face and wings. Black Phoebe, Western Wood-Pewee, Empidonax spp. all eliminated by these characters. Am aware of rarity, but also that this species has been observed more than once recently along the bosque at Albuquerque.
