Julie Karlson and I were walking along the dike west of the old parking lot when she spotted a different sparrow in with a flock of White-crowned Sparrows. It took me a while to spot it. I got just a brief look at it but noticed the black mark down the breast. I knew it was a Harris's Sparrow. I didn't tell Julie what it was. We walked back to the car and she looked through the field guide and picked out the Harris's Sparrow so she agreed with my identification. It was slightly larger than the White-crowned Sparrows and marked with a black vertical mark on the breast with more black just below the throat. I had seen Harris's Sparrows before and am very familiar with White-crowned Sparrow.
