Identification

Elongated gray swift-like bird with long, narrow wings and tail. Upright crest often erected when bird is perched. Male has orange cheek patch and female a dark gray one. Similar Gray-rumped Treeswift has contrasting pale rump and shorter tail streamers that do not project beyond the wingtips. Sallies from open perches to capture insects. Inhabits forest and edges from lowlands up into foothills. Gives high-pitched yelping calls, often in flight.
