Identification

Fairly large manakin of montane forest habitats. Males are black with a blue back and red cap; females are dull olive green. Both sexes have a dark brown eye. Found at higher elevations than similar Blue-backed Manakin. Found in the understory of mossy forest, including on outlying ridges. Listen for its loud whistled calls.
