Found in dense, low vegetation of Oregon, California, and Baja California. Hard to see, but often heard. Plain gray-brown plumage resembles a titmouse, but shows a long, cocked tail like a wren. Also note pale eye and short pointed bill. Usually solitary or in pairs. Not closely related to any other species in Western Hemisphere.
