Large black-and-white woodpecker; very similar to Great Spotted Woodpecker, but with a single large and rather formless white patch dominating the entire wing instead of scattered white dots and bars. Found in waterside clusters of forest, preferring poplar stands, in the largely dry and treeless expanses of Central Asia.
