Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

One of only two regularly occurring green pigeons in East Asia and the only one with a clean white belly in this region. Both sexes green overall with yellowish-green heads (brighter in males). Males have a vivid maroon wing patch; compare much smaller Whistling. Generally uncommon in a wide range of forest and forest edge habitats, occasionally gathering in flocks on coastlines to drink salt water, presumably to aid digestion of fruit.
