Identification

This small, furtive, ground-dwelling songbird is told from similar species by its thin white eyebrow. Adult males are slaty above with dusky ochre underparts. Female is similar but with thinner brow and earthy brown upperparts. Breeds in dense forests, edges, and secondary growth at high elevations (1000-3400 m), descending to foothills during the winter. The subspecies in Taiwan (formosana) is sometimes considered a distinct endemic species, Taiwan Bush-Robin.
