Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

The thin white supercilium of this small and furtive ground-dwelling songbird sets it apart from other otherwise similar species. Male slaty above with dusky ochre underparts, female similar but with thinner brow and earthy brown upperparts. Breeds in dense forests, edges, and secondary growth at high elevations (1000-3400 m), descending to foothills during the winter. The subspecies in Taiwan (formosana) is sometimes considered a distinct endemic species, Taiwan Bush-Robin.
