Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Short-legged, gray shorebird usually found on rocks. In breeding plumage, look for jaggedly barred underparts and thin black-and-white patterning on face. Plainer gray underparts in winter. Medium-length, straight bill. Yellow legs. Elongated, horizontal posture. Bobs tail up and down. Sometimes found close to other rock-loving shorebirds like turnstones, Surfbird, and Rock Sandpiper, but generally forages independently.
