All-dark swift, often with slightly paler throat. Body is cigar shaped; flies with stiff, quick wingbeats. Often in small flocks. Listen for its high-pitched chips and trills. Found in a variety of habitats. Western counterpart to Chimney Swift; essentially no range overlap during breeding season, but extensive overlap during migration through Central America.
