Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A tiny button of a bird; strikingly dissimilar to the traditional image of a woodpecker. A lively inhabitant of hilly forests, it tends to forage in the mid levels, from which it gives high-pitched squeaks and a disproportionately loud drum. Cap and nape are brown, blending smoothly into olive-green wings and back. Face and underparts are white, streaked and spotted with black.
