A medium-sized, very long-tailed, fairly plain cisticola. Note the rufous cap and the white tip to the tail. The outer edges of the tail are also pale: white in males and gray in females. Found locally in miombo broadleaf woodland. Very similar to Piping and Tabora Cisticolas, but usually distinguished by range. Further distinguished by the all-black tail with pale edges and the rufous cap that blends in smoothly with the back, rather than contrasting sharply with it. The song is a series of several low-pitched rolling phrases. Also gives a flight display that includes high-pitched notes and wing snaps.
