Large, powerful, falcon with pale head, a thin mustache, and dark "trousers"; tail extends beyond wingtips at rest. In flight the wings are broad, with dark underwing coverts. Found in open grasslands with rocky areas and cliffs or in gallery forests. Often nests in heronries. Feeds on small mammals, especially susliks (ground squirrels), and birds.
