A small- to medium-sized lark that has a long tail with buffy, not white, outer feathers. Upperparts are variable, but mostly rusty rufous with a narrow buffy eyebrow. The bill is bicolored: pale below and dark on the ridge of the upper mandible. Underparts pale with diffuse tawny streaks on the breast. Resident in open dry savanna with rocks, but extremely localized in poorly known areas. Vocalizations unknown. Most other small larks within its range have white sides to the tail.
