Identification
Only discovered in the early 2010s, this fantail is restricted to montane and foothill forests between 750 and 1,020 meters on western Peleng, off the coast of Sulawesi. A typical “Rufous-type” fantail, with a neat white throat, black “bib”, orange forehead, and long black-and-orange tail. Behavior still poorly known, but presumably an active forager like others in its genus. Song is a distinctive series of tunefully descending pure-sounding whistles: “dee-doo-dee-doodee.” Call is a hard “cheep” note.
