A small, short-tailed parrot. Native to southern Africa. Feral populations occur in Arizona and the Hawaiian Islands. Feral birds can have the green body, pinkish face, and blue rump of the wild type, but several domestic color variations occur including birds that are mostly blue and mostly yellow with many intergrades. Feral populations are fairly common in the Kihei area of southern Maui and are local but increasing in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Commonly kept in captivity, escaped birds may be seen anywhere. Call is a shrill, high whistle.
