Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

This warbler prefers canyons and mountainous areas with oaks and pines. Striking color pattern: black with large white wing patch, red belly, and bold white outer tail feathers. Feeds on insects; flashes wings and tail when foraging to flush its prey. Song is a musical warble; repeated "chewee." Call similar to Pine Siskin but less wiry.
