Rare and beautiful pigeon of wooded areas. Predominantly a rich maroon color with a paler breast and gray wingtips. The silver cap is usually hard to see as the bird hurtles by overhead, but is strikingly obvious when perched. Usually forages quietly in the crowns of fruiting trees either singly or in pairs, but will congregate in small flocks at roosts and watering holes.
