Identification

Large, chunky tanager. Very nondescript: entirely olive-green with greenish-yellow throat. Note thick bill. Sexes alike. Usually found in groups, sometimes in mixed feeding flocks with other species. Stays fairly low in the lower and middle levels of forests in lowlands and foothills. Listen for its strikingly loud song in the early morning.
