A tiny dove of African origin that is barely larger than a sparrow. Light gray overall with an extremely long tail and short and rounded wings. Males have a black face, throat, and breast. Shows its rusty wing pattern as it flies off rapidly. Feeds on the ground and perches in trees and bushes. Favors arid and semi-arid vegetated habitats; often near cultivation and human habitation. Song is a repeating series of deep, soft notes with increasing intensity, “kuuuu… kuuuu… kuuuu…”
