Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A ground-loving songbird of hilly forests and mountains, this rusty-brown laughingthrush gets its name from its pale-blue brow goggles and brow line (Hwa Mei is Chinese for “drawn eyebrow”). A beautiful songster and accomplished mimic, this is a common species in the cagebird trade, with feral populations in parks and gardens across China, Japan, and Taiwan. In Taiwan, it hybridizes with the native Taiwan Hwamei.
