Typical scops-owl, with small ear tufts that can be hidden, especially when roosting during the day. Color varies from gray to brown to rufous. Inhabits moist habitats in the east and north of Madagascar, including rainforest, scrub, and plantations. Often found on day roosts in low tangles. Song is a punctuated “tru-tru-tru…”. Very similar to Torotoroka Scops-Owl, but found in wet habitats rather than dry ones, and its song consists of notes that are distinct, rather than rolled together.
