Extremely rare and elusive gamebird of Borneo’s central mountains, where it favors primary montane and foothill forests at 900-1200 meters. Extremely seldomly seen; if miraculously seen well, note male’s rufous face, gray breast, and white belly. Female replaces male’s gray with chestnut. Both sexes appear long-necked and thickset overall, with a long, slightly hooked bill. White belly distinguishes this species from the very similar and closely related Long-billed Partridge. Vocalizations undescribed; possibly similar to those of Long-billed.
