Small seabird found in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Brown overall with a paler tan bar on the upperwing, a white-rump patch, and a deeply notched tail. Long, angular wings with deep wingbeats. Flight style similar to a nighthawk: bounding with jolting twists and turns. White rump patch is more V-shaped than Wilson's and Band-rumped Storm-Petrel and often shows dark stripe down the center. In Atlantic, most similar to Band-rumped Storm-Petrel; note more obvious pale upperwing bar, notched tail, and bounding flight. In Pacific, some birds show limited or no white on rump; look especially for flight style and pale wing bar to help separate from other storm-petrels. Rarely seen from land.
