Identification
A long-tailed, bulky, green bird that bounces agilely through evergreen forest canopies in pairs or small groups. In flight it explodes from the canopy with distinctive deep red panels in the wings. A harsh repeated, croaking “khaaar-khaaar-khaar” often reveals its presence. Knysna Turaco has a rounded, white tipped crest, unlike the pointed crest of the similar Livingstone’s Turaco. Purple-crested Turaco is much darker on the body.
