Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

The thin filamentous crest for which this large black songbird is named is often not visible; the iridescent blue sheen on the upperparts (especially the wings) is a better identification feature. The squared-off tail with the curling edges also serves to distinguish this species from many otherwise similar drongos, such as Bronzed Drongo, which have strongly forked tails. Vocalizations highly variable, altering between ragged-sounding screeches and musical whistling notes.
