Identification

A migratory lapwing with a gray head and neck, a dark gray breast band separating a white belly, brown upperparts, and white rump with a black tail. The bill is yellow with a prominent black tip. In flight, the bird shows striking black primary feathers and white secondaries. Gregarious, usually seen in loose small flocks, in parts of its range often associating with Red-wattled Lapwing. Inhabits cultivated wetlands and marshy areas, feeding mainly on insects, worms, and crustaceans.
