Identification
POWERED BY MERLIN
Widespread but uncommon from eastern Panama to Argentina and Brazil. Well-named; males are notably grayer than other similar flycatchers. Also look for white edging on wing feathers on males. Beware some populations have a greener back. Females are yellowish below and greener above with a contrasting gray head. Found in lowland forests up to around 1,200 m, usually in the middle to upper levels. Singles or pairs sometimes follow mixed-species flocks. Voice is helpful for ID: listen for descending series of piping notes and single piercing calls.
